Whether you are writing for online sites or you are a professional writer it is crucial to be persistent. It is difficult to be so since nobody is there to keep a check on you if you are sticking to some schedule or not. This is what differentiates successful writers from unsuccessful writers. The most difficult part of the journey to a successful writer is starting. Most people have no clue about starting it.When you are facing such a problem then it is known as a writer’s block. Let us find out what we should do to overcome writer’s block.
Be optimistic
Killing the negative thoughts and replacing them with positive thoughts is the first step in order to overwhelm writer’s block. Many a times you are confident about your work but sometimes you are not sure about your work. The way you tackle with these mood changes define the fate of your work. If you keep thinking about success then you will definitely succeed. On the other side, if you keep contemplating about failure then this is what you will get. Everything depends on your mind and do not let your mind control you. Once you are successful in destroying your negative thoughts then you can actually start writing.
Small steps
It happens sometimes that the bar set by you is very high and the thought of working towards it scares you. Then, you can lower the bar and then work towards it. Instead of setting the goal too high, you can divide it in smaller goals. You can set goal for each day and then work for them. This way you accomplish the small goal in a day and the sense of satisfaction will give you the motivation to complete the task next day. By following this method of smaller goals you will actually get closer day by day to that ultimate goal.
Motivate yourself
When you start writing it is possible that you will find your head as blank as the paper in front of you but then you do not have to give up but motivate yourself. It is advisable to be a part of your surrounding instead of isolating yourself from the world. You should find some time in the day to read and watch motivational stuff. Read about the person you idolise and then try writing like him.
Junk writing
No author on earth got it right in the first attempt. The author spends great deal of time in revising the rough draft. Therefore, it makes sense to allow you to just write anything, it does not matter if it is junk. Do not think about coming up with something revolutionary instead write what comes to your mind. You will find it easy to revise something that is already there in a written form and then you can also add a creative dimension to it.
Advance planning
It is always sensible to jot down all the ideas that come to your mind. You can work on any one of those ideas but the rest of them can be used when you are out of content for any particular idea. This list can be used as a list of backup options. You can keep a small notebook with you so that you can write down any idea that comes to you at any point of time and then can refer to that notebook when you are stuck somewhere.
Settle disturbing issues
It is possible that the writer’s block might be due to some underlying issues which need to be solved as soon as possible. It can be a family problem or any other issue but one that does not have immediate impacts on you. In such situations it is advised to distract your mind from the issues and wait for the time to heal them.
Start
It might not seem to be that tough but the fact is that writing the first sentence is the most difficult thing. It is comparatively easy to continue writing about something which you have already started. Give the entirety to extract that one line out without thinking about any other thing and do not get dejected if it is junk. Just Start.
The above tips will help you to smash that writer’s block and help you to move ahead. Although all these tips should be kept in the mind but the most important thing is to have faith in yourself. If you passion about writing then one day it will definitely come out.
