Earlier this year, Hoover introduced a new cordless cleaning line driven by LithiumLife battery technology. Hoover Air Cordless Bagless Handheld Vacuum is the most portable product and it is said to be a high-performance cleaner.
The product is a lot cheaper than other handheld vacuums I’ve used like Dyson V6 Mattress or Dyson V6 Trigger. Is this a good value for consumers? Here is my review after using the vacuum in the last 2 weeks.

Design
If you’ve ever used a handheld vacuum, you will never come back to your bulky full-size vacuum cleaner. I’ve changed to cordless and robot vacuums for over a year and those vacuums have really make my life easier. I love that the Hoover Air Handheld Vacuum has a very affordable price, so it could easily reach a wider range of consumers.
Taking everything out of the box, you can find the vacuum unit, a Compact LithiumLife Battery, a charger, a Motorized Turbo tool and a Crevice tool.
The whole exterior is made of plastic but it feels quite sturdy. As compared to the Dyson Trigger or Dyson V6 Mattress, the Hoover is a little heavier at about 3.8 lbs including the battery and turbo tool. However, the design of the handle makes the vacuum feel heavier.
The power button is placed on top of the device. You can slide it up to power on and slide down to turn it off. Unlike Dyson vacuums using a trigger, you don’t need to hold the slider to keep the Hoover vacuum on. However, this absolutely will drain your battery faster. The battery has a three-LED indicator to show you the battery level, you can click on the blue button at one end to know when it needs to be charged.
The dirt cup of the vacuum is quite spacious and it is big enough for me most of the time. Unfortunately, emptying the dirt cup requires a lot more steps. Besides, you will also need to clean the filter every 4-6 uses.
Another problem is that the crevice tool is too short, so it is almost impossible to reach some tight spots around furniture.
Performance
The handheld vacuum has limited functionalities as it just can be used to clean your furniture, stairs, car interiors or upholstery. I tested it on my futon and on my bed, and here is the amount of dust it collected after just 5 minutes.
The result is obviously not as impressive. Actually the suction power is quite strong at first but it is weakened after a few minutes when the dirt cup separator is blocked by slices of dust. You can see all the dust are sucked and get trapped near the filter, this is the reason why the performance is underwhelming. You should clean the compartment as soon as dust gets thickened in this part.
The battery life of the Hoover Air handheld vacuum is similar to others. It lasts about 15 minutes and a full charge will take 9 hours.
Conclusion
Pros
- Affordable
- Lightweight
- Good power
Cons
- Heavy
- Suction power gets weak when dust is trapped in the collection bin
- Requires regular cleaning
The Hoover Air Cordless Bagless Handheld Vacuum is on sale on Amazon for less than $100. This is a capable handheld vacuum and I believe many people will be satisfied with the product. If you don’t mind cleaning the dirt cup once or twice in each use, I highly recommend it.

I have 2 of these cordless hand vacs from Hoover and love them. I have rental properties that require fast but thorough cleaning. One of the hand vacs came as part of the Hoover 2-in-1 vac system with the turbo brush. I love that brush- it handles dog hair on couches et al perfectly. When I bought the cordless upright Hoover it came with a free hand vac of this same model. My daughter wanted one so i gave her the extra one I got with the upright vac, lacking any accessories with that one – i ordered the crevice tool on line but the turbo brush is nowhere to be found. The turbo brush is the single most valuable accessory for thus hand held vac – makes cleaning your car floors and such a snap. I’ve looked everywhere but apparently Hoover doesn’t sell these and the powered turbo vac (20Volt) has absolutely no markings on it for make model or brand – so I have to just search. If anyone knows where to get one of these please let me know. Marty
