Amazon unveiled its new Kindle product line a few days ago. We now have the choice of purchasing the following:
- Kindle – $79.00
- Kindle Touch – $99.00
- Kindle Touch 3g – $149.00
- Kindle Fire – $199.00
Amazon wants your business and they have priced their black and white ereader accordingly. My wife has an older generation Kindle with a keyboard and 3g and we paid over $399.00. The prices have come way down and I believe there will be a huge market for the black and white e-readers this Christmas.
The Kindle Fire doesn’t excite me very much and it is not an iPad killer at all. I believe its main competition is going to be the NOOK Color. How can anyone think a 7 inch Kindle Fire without a camera or microphone will have any affect on iPad sales; its plain silly. What the Fire will do is help Amazon continue to sell its content and keep customers on their platform.
Now if you do not care about a microphone, 3g or a camera than the $199.00 price point may be for you. What you do get is the Amazon cloud service as your backbone and the following:
- 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, magazines, and books
- Amazon Appstore – thousands of popular apps and games
- Ultra-fast web browsing – Amazon Silk
- Free cloud storage for all your Amazon content
- Vibrant color touchscreen with extra-wide viewing angle
- Fast, powerful dual-core processor
- Amazon Prime members enjoy unlimited, instant streaming of over 10,000 popular movies and TV shows

Let’s start a discussion. Do you think the Amazon Fire is an iPad Killer?

Hi Steven & Tuan,
I just bought the color Nook, because several of my friends have it and we can share things. I had been looking at the Kindle Fire and hope I won’t regret my decision. It is the first reader I will have and I’m excited about having it. I’m not sure if there is anything the Kindle will do over the Nook or not. Inform me if it does. Thanks Sally

The Nook is a great device. If down the line you feel like you want a Amazon Fire, someone will buy your Nook on ebay. lol.

My phone has a camera and mic both of which are not important for a tablet. As for 3g the cheapest 3g ipad costs $629 and then you have to sign another contract for a data plan which is why the wifi ipad is far and away the most popular. At $199 only the biggest Apple fanboy or retard would think it wouldn’t hurt ipad sales. I pre orderd 3 fires as Christmas gifts for my children. The total price was $600, I would have to spend atleast $1500 if I were giving them ipads. Amazon has already sold 250k fires so it’s already stealing ipad sales.

Harry,
Thank you for your response. Let me clarify some confusion. You do not have to sign up a contract for an ipad 3g data plan. I currently own a 3g ipad. You pay as you go. If you want to signup for a month, you are charged for the plan you select for the month only. You can cancel at anytime. I only signup for a month of usage if I know I am traveling somewhere.
As far as your remark about fanboy and retards—-
1. I am far from a fanboy–I have been a Microsoft MVP for years and I am a well round IT generalist.
2. Nobody is ret….d here. You have called me a retard and based it on zero facts except that you just dropped 600.00 on a product that is still currently smoke and mirrors.
3. You could by 3 ipad (version 1 for roughly 900.00)
Apple sold 15 million ipads last year. There is no way the fire will hurt ipad sales.
Sounds to me if there was no fire, you still would not have purchase an ipad for your children, you grinch lol.
Good Luck!
