I just got the new Dyson Omni-Glide vacuum cleaner for review and was so excited to give it a try. This is a compact cordless stick vacuum coming with the omnidirectional soft roller cleaner head which is so easy to maneuver. Unfortunately, it suddenly stopped working after the first battery recharge.
When I pressed the power button, the LED indicator at the end of the battery blinked red slowly. I tried recharging the battery again but that doesn’t solve the problem.
I contacted Dyson support and received the following response:
The battery was monitoring its own health and determined an imbalance between the cells and rather than operating in an unsafe state it shuts down and locks so that there is not chance of an unsafe failure, hence why the red light came on.
Fortunately, Dyson has really great support and they often order a replacement unit for you immediately for safety issues like this. After receiving the new Omni-Glide, I removed its new battery and inserted to the broken machine to see if it works. Surprisingly, the old Omni-Glide still didn’t turn on after replacing with the new battery. Therefore, this doesn’t seem to be a battery issue at all.
On the other hand, I also tried the old battery on my new vacuum and it worked perfectly. After those attempts, I can confirm that both batteries are perfectly fine and there is something wrong with the previous Omni-Glide vacuum. So if you have similar issue, you should ask for a whole new replacement vacuum instead of just a new battery.
