It’d been a very long time since the last time I owned a printer in my home office. I didn’t have the need of a printer since I didn’t print much. When I need to print documents, I often go to a nearby library or a Fedex office. When I need to print photos, I go to CVS, Walgreens, or even some online services.
However, when I used outside services, I sacrificed my privacy and ran the risk of identity theft. Recently, I have to print some paperworks with confidential information, therefore, I knew I need a printer at home. The HP Tango X was released about a year ago and it has everything I needed. Let’s find out if this is a good choice for you.
Unboxing & Testing
Features & Printing Quality
The HP Tango X is an upgraded version of the Tango but there is almost no difference apart from the fabric cover. The cover wraps around the bottom, the front and the top of the Tango X; Therefore, it looks less like a plastic printer, especially when you are not printing. The cover does not only make the printer more stylish but it also keeps your prints in place.
To start using the printer, I had to set it up using the HP Smart app which is available on both iOS and Android. Setting up is easy as you will just need to follow on-screen instructions; The device is ready to print after just a few minutes. The product comes with two ink cartridges (Black + tri-color) which are selling on Amazon for $40. As soon as you install the cartridges and insert papers, the printer will be available now.
The Tango X is designed with prioritization of smartphone users first; Of course, you can use it with your PC or laptop but you won’t be able to take advantages of its best features. This is not all all-in-one device but you can still scan and copy using your smartphone. The quality of the scans and copies totally depends on your smartphone’s camera but most recent devices are capable of producing decent image quality. So, it totally can meet your requirements if you occasionally need this feature.
The print quality is pretty decent and I have no issue so far. I tried printing both photos and documents; Everything looks sharp and clear while the color is accurate and beautiful. I also tested it with my MacBook and didn’t have to set up anything; I just needed to connect to the same Wi-Fi network and the MacBook could detect this printer.
Another reason you will want to use the printer with your smartphone is that it offers free ink for photo prints when you subscribe to HP Instank Ink. This is a monthly subscription plan starting from just $2.99 per month, the cheapest plan will offer you 50 pages per month and photo prints are still totally free. I think this plan is suitable for most average users and it can save you a lot of money rather than paying for expensive cartridges. The pair of cartridges are so costly that you will never want to print color photos using this printer, therefore, the subscription is an amazing value in my opinion. You can print for a whole year and it is still cheaper than buying the set of cartridge. Once you are running out of ink, they will send out extra cartridges automatically and you even don’t need to order them yourself.
Overall, the HP Tango X is a modern printer with high-quality printing and stylish design. When combined with the HP Instant Ink subscription, it makes printing more affordable than ever and I no longer have the fear of ordering expensive ink cartridges. We at TechWalls highly recommend the product.
