Design & Features
I was quite surprised when taking the ILIFE A10 out of the box. The design and build quality of the robot vacuum are impressive, it feels solid like a premium product while the sleek design looks stunning. Setting up the robot is straightforward; Basically I just needed to find a location to place the charging dock and mat, then place the robot to its charging position. The final step is installing the app on my phone and connect the A10 to my Wi-Fi network. Although you can use the remote control to operate the robot vacuum, I prefer using the app because it offers a lot more advanced features. The app was unresponsive a few times when I set it up but now everything works fine.
After scanning and cleaning my house a few times, the ILIFE A10 created a map of my floor plan so that it could optimize the cleaning route. Since the robot uses laser-based LiDAR navigation, it can map the room layout accurately and easily avoid big objects. The map will divide your floor into rooms separately so that you can clean a specific room later. You can also create invisible walls, carpet areas, no-go zones, or set cleaning schedule. Another nice feature is that you can save multiple maps for different floors in your house.
The ILIFE A10 works pretty well in my test and I didn’t see any difference as compared to other LiDAR-based robot vacuums. Of course, I still have to clean the floor free of small toys and cords because the robot can’t detect small objects on the ground. I can easily run over cords, get entangled, and stop the cleaning session.
The robot cleans in a zig-zag pattern and it takes nearly an hour to clean a 1,000-sq-ft floor. Fortunately, the battery lasts long enough for a full cleaning session. Notice that the default suction power is set very low and doesn’t offer good enough suction in most cases. You can increase the power in the app and I often set it at 80%. The maximum suction power of the A10 is 2,000Pa which is similar to most robot vacuums on the market.
The A10 is pre-installed with a rubber / bristle brushroll which is suitable for cleaning carpets and finer debris. There is another rubber brushroll inside the box which performs better on hardwood floors. I prefer the default brushroll because I have a lot of carpets in my house.
Overall, the ILIFE A10 is a decent robot vacuum with LiDAR navigation, however, it will have a hard time competing with other vacuums from more established brands in the $250 price range. If the price drops lower than $200, it will be a much more attractive deal.
