The Chinese smartphone Meizu M9 launched last year was considered the major competitor of iPhone 4 on Chinese Market. This Android device features tech specs that can be compared to any high-end smartphone at that time. After the success of Meizu M9, its second gen is under production and expected to hit the market later this year.
The second Meizu M9 will have a new name, Meizu MX (MX stands for Meng Xiang, meaning Dream). This name presents the dream of Jack Wong, CEO of Meizu, that Meizu MX could become the biggest competitor of iPhone 5 in China.
He posted a picture of the new phone and we can see that there are not significant changes in design. He said the new version will be packed with the 4 inch multi-touch screen and the resolution of 960 x 640 pixels, it is much larger than the M9’s screen with just 3.5 inches. Besides, Meizu MX will still run on Android and it is possible that the version will be upgraded to Android 2.3 GingerBread. It will also be integrated with HDMI port, 16 GB internal memory, 1GB of RAM and ROM, and an A9 dual-core processor. Especially, they will keep the same price for Meizu MX, it is about $548 for a 16 GB version.
