   So which version is the best? Which version has more stuff in it? On Apple’s website is written near the Japanese models “(CDMA)”. Does this mean it will not work in GSM-only countries? And near A1661 model (GSM/CDMA) so does that mean you get either GSM version or CDMA version or one including both? And why there’s nothing written near A1784 if it only supports only GSM… Very confused. If Japanese phones can work in GSM and CDMA and have 2 more bands and a lot of great technology other’s don’t – doesn’t that make it the best version of the phone? I have a chance to buy the phone from Japan, US or Europe so I have an option to buy either of these 3. I live in GSM-only country and visit a lot South-Korea and Japan which are CDMA-only countries and I want my phone to work fully in both. Which phone should I get. If Japanese version supports only CDMA I think I will go with a A1784 and buy one from US… What do you think? I would be more than thankful to someone who could explain me… Thank you!

     The Japanese version supports both GSM and CDMA. You should buy the A1785 if you live in Japan.

   So, to make the long story short – correct me if i wrong…:
   If you want to use your iphone internationally and to buy it online (in apple site), you just have two possibilities – AT&T and T-Mobile.
   The verizone you can’t buy, since you need a code. The sprint you can’t buy, since it has issues with unlocking.

   Correct?

   Hi, I’m from Colombia Latinoamerica, my parents will travel to New York the other week and I want to buy the iPhone 7 on their website to send it to the house where they will arrive. In Colombia we use only GSM networks, and I have no account with any carrier in the United States and the only one that gives me the option to buy without an account is T-Mobile, Can I buy it without any problem to work in Colombia? (paying full price).

     Tecnicamente funciona, pero ese modelo no esta homologado por la CRC Colombia por lo que los operadores no lo dejaran funcionar, verificar en la web de la CRC los modelos de iphone7 homologados

       Según la CRC, el modelo homologado en Colombia es el A1778.

       The government has registered the model A1778 in Colombia, this one should work without problem in that country.

       That is correct!. As of today (October 4) the A1660 is not registered in Colombia. The A1778 is.
       Same, as of today, there are no SIM Free – Unlocked iPhones at the Apple stores in the US. So the option is a Model A1778 At&T not activated. It will come with an At&T Sim card but should be no problem to remove it an replace it with one Sim card from a Carrier in Colombia.

       Compré un iphone 7 A1660 en una apple store de miami, pero el operador en colombia me indica que el imei es invalido, consultando en apple support, ellos me dicen que éste modelo solo funciona en estados unidos y algunos paises del caribe, lo que no me queda claro es como aparece homologado en la crc pero el imei no funciona.        obvio que te dijeron que el imei es invalido porque no fue importado por ninguno de los operadores, y los operadores en colombia no quieren perder negocio perdiendo ventas de sus iphones a precio descomunal, los modelos homologados en colombia son A1660, A1661, A1778 y A1784,esto por la CRC (comision de regulacion de comunicaciones) al estar homologado el operador tiene que registrarlo siempre y cuando tu tengas la factura original de compra en el exterior, entonces ellos tienen que ingresar el imei a esa base de datos, ahi es donde el imei se vuelve valido, asi de simple. No hay justificacion para que no lo hagan,

       Compré un iPhone 7 SIM-FREE en EEUU modelo A1660. Pude registrar el IMEI bien pero con Movistar no me funciona el internet por 4G LTE. Utilicé una sim de Avantel y funcionó perfecto. Cual puede ser el problema?

Türkiye’de iphone 7 A1778 modelleri satılıyor. 4G’de sorun yaşamamak için her ne kadar apple iphone LTE sayfasında Türkiye olmasa da ben bu modeli almayı düşünüyorum. Türkiye’de CDMA network olmadığı için sorun yok. Yurtdışında da diğer operatörleri kullansa yeter. Avrupa’da da A1778 modeli satılıyor. Satın alırken T-mobile operatör ile sipariş verirseniz bu model geliyor. Saygılar…

   i bought an att iphone 7 from apple store ( paid in full) full price. will it work overseas like in singapore/indonesia they’re all using sim card with gsm network.
   verizon and tmobile was out of stock when i walked in the apple store.

   Hi, thanks for this great article!

   I’m from Colombia, South America and have pre-ordered the iphone 7 plus through Verizon. I will get it through mid October. I recalled that, last week, all the iphone models were labeled as unlocked on Verizon’s website, but that tag disappeared sometime since then. I just want to confirm that I will be able to use the A1661 with no problem on a Colombian mobile carrier. I.e., it’s not unlocked for being used overseas.

     The issue is not wether it is locked or not. (In fact the A1661 with Verizon in the US is unlocked).
     In Colombia all cellphones ought to be registered (“homologados”) with the relevant authority (CRC). The A1661 IS already registered, so you should be able to activate it with one of the local carriers.
     The A1660 iPhone 7 so far has NOT been regIstered and it might be that until (and if) it is registered this model might not be activated by any of the local carriers, although, from the technical point of view it should work.

    In our country, 3 carriers working in GSM network and 2 carriers in CDMA.
    LTE frequency : Band 7 (2600 MHz) and Band 20 (800 DD).

      You can get the A1661 and use it in Uzbekistan right now. Or you can wait for the sim-free version but I’m not sure when it will be released.

    I don’t understand why the AT&T version won’t work on China Mobile and China Unicom since the AT&T version also seems to be only missing the CDMA bands. Both China Mobile and Unicom use the TD LTE bands I thought and those are supported by even the AT&T version. Am I wrong in this assumption? If so, how come?

      Actually China Mobile just completed VoLTE 2 months ago, so you can make phone calls with the AT&T version now. But why do you restrict your phone to the LTE network?

What I meant to say is, will the AT&T iPhone 7 Plus work overall (phone calls, VoLTE, 3g, 4g) on China Mobile AND China Unicom? If not, how come? I know Apple’s specs says AT&T’s version will not work but based on the specs listed, it should work.

    Good day. I was in US few days ago and i purchased IPhone 7 in Best Buy shop. I am from Europe and vendor said its unlocked for Europe. But then I installed my european SIM to activate my iPhone it gave me the message “SIM Not Supported , you have installed sim from a carrier that is not supported…. e.t.c. So i dont even know to what US carrier does my IPhone locked, I dont have any contract and i paid full price for IPhone. Please tell me what to do now , and how can i activate my phone.       All iPhones at BestBuy are locked. Does it come with a SIM card? You should call AT&T and request to unlock your device for free.

    Hi. Just wanted to leave a comment and say your page is very informative. Also I would be very greatfull if you would tell me which model Iphone 7plus i should purchase. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My family is coming to visit form then U.S. in the next week. So I cannot wait for the “sim free” unlocked version to be released. Is the Verizon A1661 my safest bet? If that’s the case I understand it will have to be bought personally at APPLE or VERIZON store.       You don’t have to wait,
      All versions are fully compatible with Argentina networks. You don’t have to activate the phone in the US.
