KOHLER is well known for its quality and stylish bathroom fixtures, so when renovating my bathroom, their products were always preferred. There are many cheap one-piece toilets on the market but I decided to go with the Santa Rosa and Prosa, which are KOHLER’s lowest-cost one-piece options. I’ve used both of them for months to find out the best value for money.
1. Design & Installation
The installation process of the 2 toilets are pretty much the same. It is quick and easy since you don’t have to attach the tank to the base. Surprisingly, the Prosa is cheaper but it includes wax ring in the box.
Both the Santa Rosa and Prosa feature a one-piece design, making them easier to clean than two-piece toilets since there are no crevices between the tank and the bowl. Prosa has a slightly rounded tank that blends well with contemporary bathrooms. Santa Rosa looks more utilitarian with a boxier tank. The locations of the flush lever are also different and I found that the Santa Rosa‘s is easier to reach as it is placed on the right side. Both of them come with a Quiet-Close seat which prevents slamming.
Both toilets have elongated bowls, which provide a more comfortable seating experience compared to round bowls. Notably, the Santa Rosa uses a compact elongated bowl, so it provides the comfort of an elongated bowl while taking up the same space as a round bowl. This makes it ideal for smaller bathrooms. On the other hand, the Prosa has a standard elongated bowl, which may take up slightly more room. Specifically, the Santa Rosa’s depth is 27-3/4″ as compared to 28-5/8″ of the Prosa.
2. Flush Performance & Water Efficiency
Water efficiency and flush performance are crucial when choosing a toilet. Both toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush (GPF) and feature KOHLER’s AquaPiston flushing technology, which delivers a powerful and effective flush while conserving water. They are evenly matched in performance. I’ve used the toilets for about 5 months and each of them was clogged only once.
3. Hygiene
The KOHLER Prosa has a slight advantage when it comes to bowl cleanliness due to its larger water surface area. Since it features a standard elongated bowl, the water covers more of the bowl, reducing the chance of waste sticking to the surface. This can help keep the bowl cleaner between flushes. On the other hand, the KOHLER Santa Rosa features Revolution 360 flushing technology, which generates a forceful swirling motion to rinse the bowl more effectively with every flush. This powerful flushing action helps prevent buildup and keeps the bowl cleaner for longer, reducing the need for frequent manual scrubbing.
Final Verdict
I am very satisfied with both the Prosa and Santa Rosa. They look great and perform well as expected. At this time, the Prosa is at least $40 cheaper, so if you don’t have to worry about saving an extra inch in your bathroom, you totally can go with the Prosa.
