The summer is coming and we all are finding ways to beat the heat while enjoying the time outdoors. If you regularly have picnics at parks or beaches, you won’t be able to have fun without cold beverages or fruits. Moreover, if you camp overnight and want to cook some fresh foods, you absolutely need to keep them cold to avoid contamination. When we stay outdoors, we don’t have the convenience of a refrigerator but we have portable coolers which are considered as a passive refrigerator.
The coolers can be made of nylon, hard plastic, metal, cotton, canvas, etc. In general, they can be divided into two groups, which are soft cooler bags and hard-sided coolers. I prefer cooler bags because they are less bulky, more lightweight, so you can carry them with your hand or on your shoulder. In this post, we’re checking out the KUYOU Insulated Cooler Bag.
In terms of design, the KUYOU bag is made taller so that it becomes even more compact. Specifically, it measures 17″x10″x15″ and weighs less than 5 lbs. The compact size means you can carry it easier and save space in your car trunk. I can carry the whole bag with the top handle, the two handles on 2 sides, or carry on my shoulder with the included shoulder strap. Despite being a portable bag, the KUYOU has a large capacity of 21 quarts (20L) which means it can hold up to 30 cans or 15 lbs of ice only. Ideally, I often bring 8 cans and reserve the remaining space for fruits, yogurt, ice cream, and a lot of ice. That’s more than enough for a whole-day family trip.
The most important feature of a cooler is, of course, insulation. In general, insulation of soft-sided bags is not as good as hard-sided coolers. However, most of us use cooler bags for short trips of around 1-2 days, so the KUYOU bag totally can meet your requirements. It features 3-layer insulation including a 600D/TPU shell which is waterproof and resistant to punctures, mildew and UV rays. In the middle, they use closed-cell rubber foam to maintain the low temperature; This is the thickest layer and also the most important one to make a great cooler bag. The last layer is the blue one as you can see in the picture above; This is where you will put ice and foods, so they use an FDA-approved food-grade BPA-free material. Just make sure to clean the surface after usage.
I tested the bag on a 85-degree day. We visited a local beach and spent the whole day there. The bag was placed on sand under the shade and I was so surprised that the ice melted just a little by the end of the day. I went home and left it indoors to see how many days it could last. At the end of the 3rd days, the ice almost melted completely but the cans and the water were still very cold. Overall, the performance is great for average usage.
Notably, the bag is 100% leak-free as it uses the Hydrolok zipper. The zipper might be stiff at first use but you can find a tube of lubricant inside; Just apply the lubricant on the zipper, try zipping in and out a few times, and it will become smoother immediately.
Nothing can be as refreshing as having a cold drink under the hot summer sun; Either you have pure water, soda, or beer, the KUYOU cooler bag is a great solution to beat the heat. We at TechWalls totally recommend the bag since it is even more affordable than similar products on the market. It actually comes from the same manufacturer that made the popular YETI Hopper Flip Portable Cooler, so we can expect pretty much the same quality.
