Lexar is a familiar and well-regarded name to us photographers. The company has been making quality memory products, such as SD cards, for nearly three decades. Given its history, it feels natural for the company’s new brand, pexar, to branch into products that display the captured images.
Pictures are a great way to add color and personal flair to your home. However, given the space constraints of most homes, choosing which ones to hang up is always tough. This is why digital picture frames are great. While they can still only display one picture at a time, they can rotate through your entire picture book at your discretion.
And that’s the whole idea of the pexar digital picture frames launched at IFA 2024. Even at a glance, it’s clear that these frames are made to be uncomplicated. Matching the aesthetics of traditional picture frames with their classy thin bezels, the pexar digital picture frames feel right at home in a modern office or your grandparents’ house. They lack all the functions of a smart display, but as a picture frame, they don’t need them. With a three-step setup process, pexar stuck to what a picture frame should be: simple and practical, just with a digital twist.
There are three sizes to choose from: 10.1, 11, and 16 inches. pexar is betting on the 11-inch to be the most popular one. Not only does it launch first on Sept. 9, it also has the highest resolution at 2,000 x 1,200. Despite being larger, the 16-inch model oddly drops the resolution down to 1,920 x 1,200. Finally, the 10.1-inch model gets 1,280 x 800 resolution.
No matter which version you choose, their touch-enabled displays all feature great colors and brightness, and even an anti-glare treatment to ensure your pictures stay bright and vibrant under most home lighting conditions.
For storage, the pexar digital picture frames come with 32GB of flash memory built-in, which pexar says is enough to hold up to 40,000 pictures. In case users need more, it can be expanded to up to 1TB using either a USB memory stick or SD card. User-expandable storage is always convenient, especially if all your family members are dumping pictures into the frames all the time. Speaking of sharing, the pexar digital frame supports up to 512 users who can all upload to the picture frame through the Frameo smartphone app if they’re on the same Wi-Fi network.
The 11-inch pexar digital picture frame is set to launch on Amazon on Sept. 9 for $159.99. The 10.1-inch model will follow in October but currently lacks a pricing. The 16-inch model is the most mysterious one, missing both availability and cost.
