As you might know, I am a fan of Logitech because they always offer high-quality accessories for very reasonable prices. Logitech mice have been my first choice over the past few years, I used the Anywhere Mouse MX and M570 trackball and they both didn’t disappoint me.
In this post, I’m going to review another popular product from Logitech, the Marathon Mouse M705. Read on for more details.
Design and Features
The M705 features a compact and ergonomic design, just like other Logitech mice. I felt so comfortable in the first time using this mouse. It is bigger than the Anywhere Mouse MX, and it is sculpted properly so that my thumb could be hold gently on the rubber groove. Then I can easily click on the button on the grip or the back/forward buttons above. These buttons are very convenient and can be reprogrammed for other usages. If you are on Mac, you can install the Logitech Control Center software to check remaining battery as well as reassign buttons.
One of my favorite features of Logitech mice is the scroll wheel. I can click on the button for a middle click, scroll up and down, and tilt to the left left or right for side-to-side scrolling. Moreover, there is a button to switch scrolling mode right below, that means you can choose between click-to-click and hyper-fast scrolling. The later mode is very useful when you have to read long documents.
Setting up the mouse is very easy. After inserting the batteries into the compartment on the bottom, you can plug the included tiny Logitech Unifying receiver to your computer and start using the wireless mouse. In case you are using multiple Logitech mice, you will need to install the Logitech Unifying software so that your computer can detect the new mouse.
Performance
The Marathon M705 performed impressively in my test. It has a good DPI which is set at 1000 dpi, and this is more than enough for normal usages. I use the mouse to read documents and browse web. For these purposes, it always delivers a fast and precise movements. Besides, I haven’t experienced any lag or disconnection.
The M705 doesn’t have the superior Darkfield sensor, so it doesn’t perform really well on glass or transparent surfaces. However, its advanced laser tracking still works great on my glossy desk.
If those great features still couldn’t convince you to buy this mouse, you will be amazed at battery life of the M705. The mouse uses 2AA batteries and according to Logitech, it could power the mouse for up to 3 years. This is unbelievable if you are comparing to other wireless mice with a few weeks or a few months of battery life. As I want to reduce weight of the mouse, I am using only one battery and the control center is showing more than 500 days left now.
