I was looking for a mini tripod for traveling and ended up with some junk products. Most of them are cheaply built and can’t hold my Sony mirrorless camera. Fortunately, I found out an awesome tripod on Amazon with almost perfect ratings on Amazon. Let’s check out the Manfrotto MTPIXI-B PIXI Mini Tripod.
Unboxing & Testing
Features & Performance
When I researched the market, I was more interested in flexible tripods. However, the products are not reliable enough and often broken after a few months. They can be put to good use when carrying a smartphone only. Therefore, I finally purchased the Manfrotto PIXI with a more traditional look.
The PIXI has 3 legs which can be closed or opened but they are not extendable. Therefore, you will have to put it on something or be creative with this when you want to take photos from a height. To connect the tripod, you will need to twist the 1/4″ screw thread to your camera.
A great feature of the tripod is the ball head system. To adjust the camera angle, you’ll just push a red button and then freely rotate the camera. Once done, just release the button and the camera will be locked in place. I test it with my Sony A7II mirrorless camera and quite surprised with how sturdy it is.
The product has a solid build quality although most parts, except the ball head, are made of plastic. They also care about details such as the rubber feet to avoid slipping. You can also close all the legs and use the tripod in handheld mode, then all the legs will act as a handle. When recording videos, the handle will help stabilize your footages although it can’t be as good as 3-axis motorized gimbal stabilizer.
Overall, the Manfrotto PIXI is a decent product and we totally recommend it.

How good of a job does it do stabilizing a smart phone video when in handheld!?
