Dash cams are particularly important for older cars that lack built-in cameras as they capture footage of the road and surrounding environment. Therefore, they can provide an extra layer of security and accountability, which can be crucial in the event of an accident. In this post, we’re checking out the OMBAR M571 3-Channel Dash Cam.

Unboxing and Installation

The OMBAR M571 dash cam arrived neatly packaged, with all the necessary components for installation. The box included the main dash cam unit, a rear camera, a cabin camera, a 64GB TF card, and various cables. The installation process was straightforward. The front camera can be easily attached to my windshield with the pre-installed adhesive pad, and the rear camera adhered to the rear window. The cabin camera just connects to the front camera via the USB-C port. It takes just a few minutes to set it up and run the cables.

Video Quality and Resolution

The front camera can record in 4K resolution, capturing clear and detailed footage. The wide-angle lenses – 170° for the front, 150° for the rear, and 150° for the cabin – ensure comprehensive coverage, creating a 360° surveillance system. This high resolution makes it easy to read license plates and other critical details, providing peace of mind in case of accidents or disputes. However, if you use all 3 cameras, the front camera just can record in 2K while the rear and cabin cameras both record in 1080p. The 2K footage of the front camera is fairly grainy but it is good enough to read the license plates in front of the car. It features 6 hidden IR LED lights, which automatically adjust exposure to capture clear video footage even in complete darkness. This feature is crucial for those who drive frequently at night, ensuring that every detail inside the vehicle is recorded.

The G-sensor detects any sudden movements or impacts, automatically saving and locking the footage to prevent it from being overwritten. The loop recording function is equally useful, automatically overwriting the oldest footage when the TF card reaches its capacity. The dash cam supports cards up to 256GB, allowing for extended recording periods. The only problem is that my Mac can’t read the card because it is formatted in exFAT. Therefore, I have to use the screen on the front camera or the OnCam app to view footage. The app is a bit sluggish but it still works when I need to transfer video files to my phone.

Another nice feature is built-in GPS and dual-band WiFi. The GPS accurately records my driving route and speed, providing essential data in case of incidents.

The 3.2″ LCD screen on the OMBAR M571 allows for a split-screen display, showing both front and rear video feeds simultaneously. This feature is incredibly useful for monitoring both the road ahead and activities behind the vehicle in real-time.
