I’ve used Xiaomi lights for a while and I totally love them just because of their gorgeous design. However, they had a major problem: the lights are smart products but I used them just like normal ones.
I guess many people are also in the same situation. You pay a premium price for smart products but you hardly use the smart features. In this case, it is because the companion apps like Xiaomi Home or Yeelight are boring and lack a lot of features.
Update: Xiaomi Yeelight products have been officially supported by Google Assistant, so now you don’t need to use any 3rd-party service to control the lights. Moreover, you have a total control of the lights, you can turn it on/off, change brightness, change lighting color, or change a scene (found in Yeelight app). When you set it up, make sure to choose the Singapore server instead of the Mainland China one.
To see how to set up and control the lights, watch this video.
The following part is my old tutorial showing the control via IFTTT service:
Fortunately, the Yeelight IFTTT service was available earlier this year and it allows us to do a lot of cool stuff with the Xiaomi lights. And the most expected feature is using Google Home and Assistant to control Xiaomi lights with our own voice. This is very helpful since Yeelight products were not supported natively by Google Assistant.
Now, I can easily turn on / off, change lighting color using my voice. You can see all Yeelight actions in this video. The service supports all my Xiaomi lights including the Xiaomi Mijia desk lamp, Xiaomi lightstrip, Xiaomi Yeelight LED ceiling lamp, or Xiaomi nightstand lamp. To see the step-by-step guide on how to set up the Xiaomi lights, check out the video below.

Hi,
Someone made it to work by deleting the bulbs from U.S server and adding all of them back to Singapore server.
Does it works for you?
mickybzh says

George Calicdan says
you have to change the server location into Singapore.

Hello, but, XIaomi gateway seems not to be usable out of Mainland China server Location.
On my side, still blocked due to some equipments which require Xiaomi gateway, but also yeelights.
If someone resolved it, I would like to know the solutions.
Thanks per advance

Now you can connect Xiaomi devices to the Google Assistant via MiHome app – it is being supported. Xiaomi Vacuum and Desk Lamp already work for me!
Now I am trying to figure out what voice commands are supported.
