If you live in Connecticut, it was difficult to buy a Tesla as you would have to drive to Mount Kisco in NY to pick up your car. Fortunately, Tesla opened a showroom in the Shops at Mohegan Sun a few months ago. The store cleverly circumvents the state law that prohibits vehicle manufacturers from selling directly to consumers, thanks to its location on Sovereign Tribal land. I traded in my Toyota RAV4 and picked up the Tesla Model Y at this location and it was a smooth experience.

Preparing for Your Tesla Pickup
Before heading to the Tesla Uncasville showroom, make sure you’re ready for a smooth pickup day by completing a few critical tasks:
- Complete All Tasks: Make sure to send payment and complete all tasks in the Tesla app before the delivery date. You will need to fill in information for your trade-in vehicle, take a picture of the odometer. Also, use the Tesla app to upload proof of insurance prior to your appointment. Ensure that your policy meets Tesla’s listed requirements to prevent any last-minute delays.
- Prepare Necessary Documents and Items:
- If you’re trading in a vehicle, bring the title of your trade-in vehicle (or registration if there’s an active lien) and all keys.
- Ensure all registrants on the trade-in vehicle are present during the pickup to facilitate a smooth transfer.
What to Expect on the Day of Pickup
When you arrive at Mohegan Sun to pick up your new Tesla, here’s what you should do:
- Parking:
- If not trading in a vehicle, park in the Riverview Garage. Follow the casino signage directing you towards the Shops. The Tesla showroom is conveniently located next to Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, and you’ll know you’re close when you hear the waterfalls.
- For those trading in a vehicle, park at the Sky Valet. Leave your car there, take all belongings, and go inside to find the Tesla showroom.
- Check-In at the Showroom: Upon arrival, enter the showroom to check in for your delivery appointment. This is a great opportunity to ask any last-minute questions you might have about your new Tesla or the trade-in process.
- Complete Paperworks: There are some paperworks you need to sign to complete the trade-in. You will also receive a new registration for the Tesla. DMV will send you the title in a few weeks. Surprisingly, Tesla doesn’t even check the condition of my Toyota.
- Accept Delivery: Use the Tesla app to ‘Accept Delivery’ of your new Model Y. This step will finalize the purchase and allow you to access your new vehicle.
- Transfer of Plates: If you chose to keep your license plates from the trade-in vehicle, a Tesla employee would go with you and transfer them directly to your new Tesla.
