V-MODA headphones have been always the favorites by DJs all over the world. They all love the premium build and sound clarity of the headphones. The V-MODA Crossfade M-100 headphones have been available since 2012 but it is still among the best choices for professional DJs today.
What’s so special about the V-MODA? Let’s find out in the review
Unboxing
Design & Features
Inside the box, you can find an exoskeleton carry case and everything is kept inside this compact case. There are the M-100 headphones, reinforced microphone and audio cables, 1/4″ pro adapter, and extra chrome shields. The shields on the earcups are removable, therefore, you totally can order customized shields on V-MODA website with your preferred color, material, and texture to make your headphones unique.
The V-MODA doesn’t really have an eye-catching design but it has a sleek look and solid build of a premium product. This is because the manufacturer uses high-quality materials throughout the body. The earpads are very well-cushioned with memory foam while the steel frame is said to be virtually indestructible.
I’ve used the headphones for a month but I don’t really feel comfortable for extended listening sessions. I often use them in less than an hour because of the pressure around my ears and on top of my head. They are somewhat too tight for me. The design might be helpful if you use the headphones on the go, it will help the headphones stay steadily on your head and also block ambient noises.
The Crossfade M-100 features a CliqFold hinge system that allows you to fold the earcups inwards. Therefore, the headphones can become much smaller for easy storage and transportation. These are among the most compact over-ear headphones but they are still a bit larger than the Marshall Monitor.
Audio Quality
Despite highly-acclaimed reviews all over the Internet, I set my expectation level pretty low when testing the Crossfade M-100 because I’ve never been fond of DJ headphones. I test other V-MODA headphones which were the V-MODA Crossfade LP but I was not impressed as well. The Crossfade M-100 does not only look similar but the sonic characteristics are identical as well.
Again we have a very rich sound with an overwhelming bass response. I can say that the bass is dominating the whole sound. It actually sounds pretty fun if you watch movies or listen to music in less than 30 minutes. After that, my ears get fatigued due to the tight headband and the warm sound, so the whole experience becomes less enjoyable. Having said that, this is totally my preference and I know that many people will love the warm sound, especially when you switch from Beats headphones. As compared to Beats or other cheap headphones, the V-MODA sounds way better and you can see it in the clarity of the mids. The bass is significantly boosted but it doesn’t make the sound muddy.
I prefer a wider soundstage and a more present treble, so I don’t really like the headphones.
Conclusion
Pros
- Sleek design with customizable shields
- High-quality materials
- Suitable for bass lovers
Cons
- Not really comfortable
The V-MODA Crossfade M-100 was crowded sources by audiophiles, DJs and producers, therefore, many people must be a fan of the sound signature. I’m not interested in a warm sound but still recommend the product if you’re looking for compact over-ear headphones that are all about the bass.
