Xiaomi has never disappointed me with their household appliances. They do not only have modern design but also perform amazingly well. The Smartmi 2S Cordless Smart Stand Fan is their newest launch in the US and we’ve tested it out thoroughly for a couple of weeks.
Unboxing & Installation
Features & Performance
The Smartmi 2S pedestal fan comes in just 9 parts inside the box and it is extremely easy to put them all together. It took me just a few minutes and all tools required are the included hex key and a small screwdriver to secure the cage. The fan still has the familiar minimal design with white exterior as seen on other Xiaomi products. Although the cage and blades are made of plastic, they feel very solid and durable. The fan itself is quite sturdy, thanks to the metal post and battery hidden inside the base.
When I first plugged in and powered on the fan, I was freaked out because the fan didn’t turn on at all and there was no response. I thought that the fan was dead but I still tried to re-attach the base to the post once again and somehow, it worked this time.
There are 2 control buttons located on the motor module; The button on top is used to turn on/off or change fan speeds and the button on the back is to turn on/off oscillation. The are LED lights to show the current fan speed but you won’t be able to check the current battery level here. Even when I set it up with the Mi Home app, I still can’t check the battery level. This is quite inconvenient because I don’t know when I should recharge the fan.
This is a smart fan and I highly recommend you to use it with the Mi Home app. Controls within the app are quite basic, for instance, you can power on/off, adjust fan speed, switch between standard/natural airflow, set oscillating angle, set timer, or set child lock. The primary reason I use the app is to connect it to smart assistants. Once set up, I linked the fan to Google Home and then I can easily make voice commands with my phone and Nest Hub to control the fan. At this time, I can only turn on or off the fan and I can’t adjust fan speed with my voice yet. Besides, the fan is not compatible with Apple HomeKit.
The fan works very smoothly and silently. Even at the max speed, the noise level is just around 47dB. Of course, this is partly due to the weaker brushless motor. I compared the airflow of this fan to my Vornado 6303 and Taotronics tower fan; The Smartmi 2S, of course, has the weakest airflow but this is understandable. This is a cordless fan, so Xiaomi has to find the right balance between power and energy efficiency. The battery life of the fan is quite impressive at up to 20 hours. In my test, I use the fan at the fan speed of 3 and 4 and it could last more than 12 hours. That means you can bring it outdoors to your porch, rooftop, or balcony and use it for a whole day.
Conclusion
Pros
- Minimal cordless design
- Full-day battery life
- Works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa
Cons
- No battery indicator
If you are looking for a portable cordless fan to use around your house, the Xiaomi Smartmi 2S fan is undoubtedly the best choice. We at TechWalls highly recommend it.
